Green Chords-State Level 2009

Image
This is the reason why I drove all the way to Sibu. To lend support to my brother's school marching band, the Green Chords. Before this, I was never a fan. Err wait..before this I've never heard of marching band at all. Of course this all changed after my sibs joined Green Road Sec. School's marching band. See the guy with the tuba. That's my younger bro, Calvin a.k.a Ju. When he first started, i.e. at the age of 13, he was selected to play the tuba. Mind you, he was the sole tuba player for 4 consecutive years. Imagine, he's controlling the bass side of the band...all by himself. Mind you, among all of us siblings, he was never musically trained. It was because of band that he begged my mum to enroll him for piano class..at the age of 14, which is quite late..just to master theory. He plays the tuba..and he has no musical theory background. Apparently, most of his band mates don't have any music background either. Imagine, they were taught to play the instrument

My Sibu Trip

Last Friday, my family and I drove all the way to Sibu just to watch my brother's marching band performance. It took me 6 hours to get there, not including the stops that we had to make. I'm quite amaze to find that Sibu has nice places and scenery. The waterfront overlooking the wide river. The padang merdeka..pretty clean with modern structural designs. I like the bridge too. Very long and the view from the top is breath taking. As for the shopping, I am surprised that I found clothes that I really like. Thank God there were discounts of 50% due to the Gawai celebration. Oh ya..my sis bought a replica Vans shoes for RM39.90. In Kuching, the replica still cost around RM79+. Again...what a steal! Of course I didn't only shop, I also eat, eat and eat some more. Sibu is a pork lover's food galore! My friend brought me to a family cafe at the outskirts of town, its just below the Tien's stockist..don't know the name..which is famous for its pork leg. Their style o

Tribute to my mama

Today is mother's day. I wish all mothers out there a blessed mother's day and I call upon the sons and daughters to honour them on this special day. My mum's name is Nancy Donald. She comes from an Iban-Chinese heritage. When me or my sis starts grumbling while doing our chores, my mum would tell me her childhood stories...and both of us would say, "Oh no, here goes the ancient story" or "Hmm...not the going to the bushes story again." Well, let me tell you her story. And it goes like this: I started to cook when I was about 5 or 6 years old. In those days, we had to go to the jungle to collect jungle products for food and collect water from the river. Our stoves were not like what you have now. We had to chop the wood and start the fire. When I think back of those years, I was wondering how could my mother make a small child do such heavy labour. I really thank God for His protection because we could have stepped on poisonous snakes or eaten by a pyt

Making my days count for God

Is it me or do I find that the days are passing by so quickly. Last Sunday, I remembered dreading going back to work on Monday. And now its Saturday night and tomorrow's Sunday. By the time I know it, May is over and we'll enter the month of June. Oh dear, soon I'll be ..33 or 32? Even as I write this, I'm asking my sis how old am I? She's laughing. Well, what can I say? I stopped counting my age when I was 29. Mainly because it gives me the creeps. Undeniably. But don't get me wrong. I've come to grasp the reality that aging is the least of my problem. Its how I go through the aging process that matters. Should I be crabby everytime my birthday comes? Or should I celebrate it with joy and gladness? As I write this I 'm reminding myself. Life is not about me. Its about God. Live my life as if that its my last day on earth. Make every second count for God. Do so and there will be contentment in my life. Well, pray for me my friends so that God would sh
