Green Chords-State Level 2009

This is the reason why I drove all the way to Sibu. To lend support to my brother's school marching band, the Green Chords. Before this, I was never a fan. Err wait..before this I've never heard of marching band at all. Of course this all changed after my sibs joined Green Road Sec. School's marching band.

See the guy with the tuba. That's my younger bro, Calvin a.k.a Ju. When he first started, i.e. at the age of 13, he was selected to play the tuba. Mind you, he was the sole tuba player for 4 consecutive years. Imagine, he's controlling the bass side of the band...all by himself. Mind you, among all of us siblings, he was never musically trained. It was because of band that he begged my mum to enroll him for piano class..at the age of 14, which is quite late..just to master theory. He plays the tuba..and he has no musical theory background.

Apparently, most of his band mates don't have any music background either. Imagine, they were taught to play the instruments from scratch. Not only do they have to learn music, they must also learn formation. I just don't know how they do it. Play music and do formation at the same time...I just have to hand it to them..they're really something.

As for their schedules, these guys practices every Saturday, from 8p.m. to 5p.m. When the competition draws near, they would practice every day till night at 9:30p.m. Imagine the feeling when they failed to get anything for this year state level competition. I know I'd be crushed.

But Green Chords, don't you be discouraged. This is just the beginning. It takes time to get to the top. I see that you've changed throughout the years. And it was change for good. Your footings were spot on this year. The introduction of colour guards into the team was definitely a fresh air. And I love their moves. I mean...who ever would think of doing the pyramid? Really cool. Oh well..at least you guys were commended by the head judge from US. To be recognized by him as a contender in the competition is a good signal. Green chords ..you'll get far as long as you guys keep it up. Well although Ju is no longer in the team..I'll always keep an eye with your progress.

Green Chords..you go, go, go!
